OH NINE

Yes, I do realize we are almost two weeks into the new year, but I am just now letting go of the holiday cheer. This Christmas was the first in my almost twenty four years of life I spent without being with either my mom or dad. *Insert mental image of me very sad here* So naturally I didn’t feel like the holidays were over until I saw at least one of them. Luckily, for me, they are now grandparents so it’s not difficult to get them to visit. Dad stopped by on his way home from his Florida vacation last weekend and mom spent this weekend with us.

So today will be the first day of my new year. 2009 is going to bring some big changes, some pretty exciting things will be happening. Make sure to check back often to keep up with the life and photography of me, Sheila, a girl excited about life’s blessings and possibilities.

I leave you with two images of my favorite part of Christmas. It use to be Christmas morning was what I looked forward to, but as a mom I have come to love the late hours of Christmas Eve. There’s just something so special about the house being dark, lit only by the twinkle of the tree, wrapping the last few gifts, making sure Santa eats his cookies and milk, and the anticipation of a very happy little girl opening presents in the morning.

Photogs: Taken with 5D Mark II at ISO 3200 & 2000

January 11, 2009 - 10:33 pm Anonymous - Sheila~A lovely story and you should know that you were not the only person missing family at Christmas. The pictures are beautiful and I am so proud of you for being a devoted mother, exceptional photographer and a terrific daughter! For those that do not know you....as one of only a handful of applicants from across the world choosen to attend North Carolina School of the Arts in Film, declining the invitation and then graduating with two degrees in two and a half years with honors in Radiography, the brains to be a surgeon or a chemist.... and yet you choose photography.
I hope your hard work and exceptional creativity bring you all the happiness you so deserve!....Even though I did want you to be a doctor. :)Your work is breathtaking!
Love,
Mom
